I’m a stickler for accuracy. Even at comp stage. Let me rephrase that. Particularly at comp stage. Striving for accuracy at comp stage pretty much sets the tone and can limit headaches down the road, especially when you’re in the thick of development and client changes are running amok.
But another nuisance I encounter is that of converting comps to live layouts with regard to interactive projects. I’m no expert on the ins and outs of chopping up a Photoshop document and coding for web, but someone quite close to me is. And when he’s doing a job for a client, and they’ve signed off on a design, he does his damnedest to ensure the real live thing looks spot on to the approved design. Pixel perfection is what he likes to call it. It takes precision and patience, but it can be done.
So when I run into designers or developers who poo-poo my mark-ups that instruct them to pick up the consistency from the comp and implement into the actual layout, I get peeved. Sure pixel perfection may not be suitable for time-crunched projects, but it's best to at least come close than to dismiss the eyes of a tuned-in proofreader.
